The album won a Grammy Award in 1993 for Best Spoken Comedy Album.

Before the opening credits, the words "This show is for SAM" appear. This is a reference to comedian Sam Kinison, who died in a car crash two weeks earlier.[1]

Carlin considered Jammin' in New York his favorite and best HBO special.[1]

This is also the first Carlin album to more-or-less contain the entire audio of his HBO special without interruption, deletion, or rearrangement. manj
